On the Move: Tracking the Ins and Outs of California Lawyers
New hires and promotions from across the California legal market.

Stephen H. Sulmeyer, a mediator with a background as an intellectual property litigator and clinical psychologist, joined the San Francisco resolution center of JAMS as a part of its panel of neutrals. He will mediate cases related to business and commercial matters; employment; estate, probate and trusts; family law; intellectual property; partnership disputes; and business torts. Previously, Sulmeyer was a co-founder of the Interdisciplinary Settlement Conference at the Marin County Superior Court.
Clark Hill brought on former CKR Law partner Leslie Katz as a member in its government and public affairs and corporate practice. She will be based in the firm's San Francisco office. Katz's government law practice specifically focuses on emerging technologies such as blockchain and clean technology. Her past experience includes serving on the board of supervisors for the city and county of San Francisco and as commissioner for the Port of San Francisco.
The San Francisco office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius grew with the addition of partner Karen Hourigan. Hourigan, who was previously a principal at Hereiam Law, counsels clients on e-discovery, information governance and data privacy matters.
Civil and criminal antitrust lawyer Eliot Adelson left Kirkland & Ellis for Morrison & Foerster, where he will serve as partner in the firm's global antitrust law practice and investigations and white-collar defense group. Adelson handles antitrust matters in both the U.S. and Japan, and his experience includes serving as deputy district attorney for Alameda County. He is based in San Francisco.
Wendel Rosen partner Amara Morrison was appointed to the Bay Planning Coalition board of directors. Morrison is based in Oakland and focuses her practice on land use, zoning, development and redevelopment, environmental law, and resource protection and conservation. The Bay Planning Coalition is a nonprofit organization that advocates a strong industrial economy and sustainable environment within and around the San Francisco Bay.
Douglas R. Young, a partner in Farella Braun + Martel's San Francisco office, began his one-year term as the 70th president of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He was installed in the position at the firm's annual meeting. Young is a litigator who handles a range of matters including internal investigations, international antitrust or FCPA claims, intellectual property, securities, white-collar criminal defense and parallel civil, criminal and regulatory proceedings.
Munger, Tolles & Olson announced that its chief financial officer, Kevin Posterro, has been named chief operating officer of the firm. Posterro, an industry veteran who has served law firms in the capacity of CFO for 20 years, joined Munger in 2017.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
