Gov. Gavin Newsom named 11 judges to the California Superior Court Friday. Women dominated the governor's first round of Superior Court appointees, with new female judges netting eight of the open judgeships.

The judges are dispersed among more than a half-dozen counties, with San Diego and Los Angeles counties reaping the bulk of the new jurists.

San Diego County Superior Court's newest judges include Olga Álvarez of San Diego; Judy S. Bae of San Diego; Terrie E. Roberts of Chula Vista. Roberts has worked as a commissioner at the San Diego County Superior Court since 2008. Prior to that, she held the role of deputy district attorney at the San Diego County District Attorney's Office from 2001 to 2008.

Steven A. Ellis of Los Angeles; Esther P. Kim of Lakewood; and Tricia J. Taylor of Los Angeles will be joining the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Ellis had been a partner with Goodwin Procter since 2010, and before that he had been a partner at Sidley Austin, starting in 1999.

In the Bay Area, Julia Campins of Moraga will step into a judgeship at Contra Costa County Superior Court; Johnny Cepeda Gogo of San Jose has been appointed to the Santa Clara County Superior Court; Joseph J. Solga of Napa will join the Napa County Superior Court; and Victoria I. Shanahan of Windsor will take a position in the Mendocino County Superior Court.

Carol A. Greene, of Riverside, will take on a judgeship in the Riverside County Superior Court. Greene after serving as a supervising deputy county counsel at the San Bernardino County Counsel's Office since 2016. Prior to that role, she was deputy county counsel at the San Bernardino County Counsel's Office from 1996 to 2016.
