On the Move: Tracking the Ins and Outs of California Lawyers

A group of four lawyers joined Baker McKenzie's securities litigation and enforcement practice in Los Angeles. Of counsel Aaron Goodman and counsel Ben Turner join from DLA Piper, associate Sara Pitt joins from Pepper Hamilton, and associate Thomas Tysowsky joins after two years as a summer associate with the firm. Goodman handles matters related to intellectual property, class actions, competition, products liability and employment, and Turner handles matter related to nationwide securities class actions, white-collar criminal defense and the immunities of foreign governments and government officials.
Kirkland & Ellis brought on Ellisen Turner, an intellectual property strategist and litigator, to its Los Angeles office as partner. Turner joins the firm from Irell & Manella, where, for a time, he served as managing partner. His IP practice includes complex patent and trade secret litigation and IP strategy and transactions.
The Los Angeles office of Tyson & Mendes grew with the addition of former Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith general liability partner Kara Pape. Pape joins Tyson & Mendes as partner. She focuses her practice on catastrophic personal injury defense, general liability defense, commercial vehicle litigation, and the defense of public entities where sexual torts are alleged, including child sexual assault and harassment.
Ovsanna Takvoryan and Kristine Takvoryan left CKR Law to join Sichenzia Ross Ference as partners. They join the firm's corporate and securities practice in Los Angeles. Earlier in their careers, the two lawyers managed a business, real estate and bankruptcy boutique called Takvoryan Law Group.
A different pair of former CKR Law partners is moving to Squire Patton Boggs. Charlotte Westfall and Victor Marquez join Squire as partners in San Francisco. Westfall focuses her practice on matters related to venture capital financing, mergers and acquisitions, and SEC compliance. Marquez focuses his practice on real estate transactions, land use and zoning law.
Former Greenberg Traurig shareholder Anthony Cortez took on the role of principal at Meyers Nave Riback Silver & Wilson. Cortez will be based in the firm's Sacramento office in the trial and litigation practice. He represents clients in regulatory compliance, commercial litigation and government enforcement matters, including federal and state consumer protection laws, environmental laws (including Prop 65), false advertising law and labeling and marketing laws.
The San Francisco Resolution Center of JAMS added retired Judge Lynn O'Malley Taylor as a panelist, arbitrator, mediator and special master. Taylor has served as a Judge in Contra Costa, Sonoma, Monterey, Napa, Sacramento and Orange counties and in the San Francisco Superior Court as part of the Judicial Council's Assigned Judges Program. In 1982 she became the first woman to be elected to the court in Marin County.
IP litigators Howard Chen and Harold H. Davis Jr. joined Greenberg Traurig as shareholders. Both attorneys were previously partners at K&L Gates. Chen assists clients with intellectual property strategies, licensing, litigation and other commercial issues. Davis handles high-value patent, trade secret, unfair competition and trademark disputes. Chen and Davis are based in Greenberg Traurig's San Francisco office, and Chen will also co-chair the firm's China practice.
Fisher & Phillips added Nicole Golob Minkow and Nicole Kamm as partners and Hannah Sweiss as an associate. All three attorneys are employment litigators and join the firm's litigation practice in Los Angeles. Minkow joins from Jackson Lewis, and Kamm and Sweiss join from Lewitt Hackman.

J. Brugh Lower of Gibbons has entered an appearance for industrial equipment supplier Devco Corporation in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi, is 3:24-cv-11294, Graco Inc. et al v. Devco Corporation.

Rebecca Maller-Stein and Kent A. Yalowitz of Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer have entered their appearances for Hanaco Venture Capital and its executives, Lior Prosor and David Frankel, in a pending securities lawsuit. The action, filed on Dec. 24 in New York Southern District Court by Zell, Aron & Co. on behalf of Goldeneye Advisors, accuses the defendants of negligently and fraudulently managing the plaintiff's $1 million investment. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Vernon S. Broderick, is 1:24-cv-09918, Goldeneye Advisors, LLC v. Hanaco Venture Capital, Ltd. et al.

Attorneys from A&O Shearman has stepped in as defense counsel for Toronto-Dominion Bank and other defendants in a pending securities class action. The suit, filed Dec. 11 in New York Southern District Court by Bleichmar Fonti & Auld, accuses the defendants of concealing the bank's 'pervasive' deficiencies in regards to its compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and the quality of its anti-money laundering controls. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, is 1:24-cv-09445, Gonzalez v. The Toronto-Dominion Bank et al.

Crown Castle International, a Pennsylvania company providing shared communications infrastructure, has turned to Luke D. Wolf of Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani to fend off a pending breach-of-contract lawsuit. The court action, filed Nov. 25 in Michigan Eastern District Court by Hooper Hathaway PC on behalf of The Town Residences LLC, accuses Crown Castle of failing to transfer approximately $30,000 in utility payments from T-Mobile in breach of a roof-top lease and assignment agreement. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Susan K. Declercq, is 2:24-cv-13131, The Town Residences LLC v. T-Mobile US, Inc. et al.

Wilfred P. Coronato and Daniel M. Schwartz of McCarter & English have stepped in as defense counsel to Electrolux Home Products Inc. in a pending product liability lawsuit.
