Silicon Valley partner Victoria "Vicky" Lee was one of the driving forces behind the firm's website, Accelerate, which supplies the startup world with firm-vetted data about things such as financing deals and acquisition prices and allows users to filter and sort data for further analysis. Lee is among the five finalists for the Innovator of the Year Award. The winner will be announced Nov. 6 as part of the California Leaders in Tech Law and Innovation Awards. She recently told The Recorder about what drove DLA to collate the market data and create the site.
The Recorder: What was the problem you set out to address through the Accelerate website?
We wanted to answer the questions that founders, entrepreneurs, startups, emerging growth companies and the investor community didn't even know they had. Our team developed a potent and free tool to empower and inform budding and blossoming business entrepreneurs by sharing strategic market trends and data, along with guidance on launching and financing companies all at the speed of business.
DLA Piper's website Accelerate is devoted to supplying data in such areas as financing deals, rounds and acquisition price from Q1 2016 through Q2 2019. To better understand the market and spot evolving trends, data may be filtered by time period, transaction volume, transaction type and, in some cases, industry vertical.
What other tools not currently available on the site are you hoping to develop for clients and the greater emerging company community?
With more than 20 U.S. and more than 90 global offices, including locations in the most important worldwide markets for emerging growth, technology and life sciences, DLA Piper is positioned to support its early-stage clients' domestic and global growth objectives. DLA Piper is the only firm to rank as one of the top five most active law firms for venture capital, private equity and M&A deal volume (PitchBook 2018).
In 2019, DLA Piper earned the top legal adviser ranking globally for overall 2018 M&A deal volume, according to Mergermarket's league table, and was also ranked number one by Thomson Reuters in its 2018 M&A deal volume ranking. Accelerate has helped contribute to these milestone successes and will continue to evolve with potentially developing a curated client portal.
