Former Amazon in-house counsel Marisa Brutoco joined Davis Wright Tremaine's Silicon Valley practice as partner. She will be a part of the firm's technology and privacy and security practice. Brutoco has experience with technology and intellectual property transactions and licensing deals, and, in addition to her time at Amazon, she worked for Apple, Google and GoPro.
Meyers Nave Riback Silver & Wilson brought on associate Gorev Ahuja to its labor employment law and workplace investigations practices. Ahuja focuses his practice on wage-and-hour, discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, labor-management relations, workplace investigations, unfair competition, class actions and ERISA matters. He moves to the firm's Oakland office after leaving Garcia Hernández Sawhney.
Todd Hammblet, former associate general counsel at Uber Technologies Inc., took on the role of chief legal officer and corporate secretary for startup fintech firm Fundbox, where he will oversee the company's legal and regulatory matters. Hamblet is based in San Francisco.
Sunnyvale-based cloud data protection and management company Druva Inc. brought on Jung-Kyu McCann to lead its legal department as the company's first-ever general counsel. Prior to the move, McCann was associate GC for Broadcom Inc., where she focused on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. Before working for Broadcom, she was senior manager and principal corporate and governance counsel for Apple.
Patent attorney Jonathan Lindsay is leaving Crowell & Moring for Irell & Manella, where he worked for four years at the beginning of his career. He will serve as counsel in the firm's Newport Beach office, advising clients on IP protection and litigation strategies in the context of technologies such as autonomous vehicles, internet-of-things, artificial intelligence and distributed-ledger technology.
Stephen Smerek left his position as co-leader of Winston & Strawn's class action practice to join Foley & Lardner as partner. Based in the firm's Los Angeles office, Smerek will focus his practice on patent litigation, mainly representing pharmaceutical manufacturers. While at Winston & Strawn, Smerek served as vice chair of the firm's e-discovery and information governance practice.
Orinda-based boutique Hartog, Baer & Hand announced that senior associates David Little and Andrew Verriere will become principals at the firm, effective Jan. 1, 2020. Little focuses his practice on estate planning, the administration of trusts and estates, and trusts and estates litigation. Verriere handles matters related to trusts and estates litigation, conservatorship litigation and financial elder abuse.
Withers added Gina Bibby as an IP partner in its Los Angeles office. Bibby represents clients in the fashion technology industry in patent, copyright and trademark intellectual property procurement, commercial agreements and IP disputes. She joins the firm from Brutzkus Gubner.
Womble Bond Dickinson's intellectual property practice grew with the addition of Yi Wilkinson as an associate in the firm's Palo Alto office. Wilkinson works with U.S. and Chinese companies on patent matters involving wireless communications, electronics, computer software, optics and medical devices. Prior to joining the firm, Wilkinson was an attorney at Arent Fox.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
