The Recorder: What's your proudest professional achievement of the past year and why?

Suz Mac Cormac: Being selected as the California corporate law expert to appear before the California Public Utilities Commission and provide advice at two public hearings on (1) the best corporate governance for utilities, including PG&E, to address climate change and (2) various corporate forms that could be adopted by utilities to allow them access to public and private capital markets and to seek returns while remaining focused on their public purpose. And handling some very challenging transactions for clients including SoftBank.

What's your proudest personal achievement of the past year and why?

Working hard to ensure that my three boys (16, 13 and 9) are engaged at school, good sports on their soccer and baseball teams, and kind. Watching my 16-year-old coach a baseball team for disabled teenagers last spring made my heart sing.

What's one piece of advice you'd give to a woman starting out in tech law?

Do what you love and stick with it. There is no substitute for patient persistence to achieve goals for yourself and your clients.

What concrete steps could be made to increase the number of women in tech law?

Ask both investors (VCs and Private Equity) and companies in the Valley to "walk the walk" by prioritizing the hiring of talented women internally and externally.
