Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo has been bulking up its corporate group in recent months with hires in Boston, New York and San Francisco. The Boston-based firm was at it again Wednesday, adding an Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe partner with experience at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Andrew Thorpe joined the firm as capital markets partner in its San Francisco office, Mintz announced Wednesday. Previously, he was a partner at Orrick and also practiced at Morrison & Foerster.
Before entering private practice, Thorpe was an attorney adviser and special counsel at the SEC's Division of Corporate Finance, where he reviewed public companies' Securities Act and Exchange Act filings and helped draft regulations.
Thorpe's hire follows a string of lateral additions on both coasts to Mintz's corporate group during the last year: The firm brought on Loretta Shaw-Lorello, Covington & Burling's former private funds co-leader, in New York; Ed Pease, Laurence Naughton and Joshua Fox in Boston; and Stephen Osborn in San Francisco.
Thorpe was not immediately available to comment on the move. His practice focuses on securities regulation, public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance matters. He has experience with clients in multiple industries, including semiconductors, software, life sciences, medical devices, clean technology, financial services, cryptocurrency and telecommunications. Past clients have included Life360 Inc., Twist Bioscience Corp. and Cortexyme Inc.
In a statement, Mintz leadership said the firm was working to grow its capital markets practice within its corporate group as well as growing in California.
"We have been focused on expanding our capital markets practice over the past several years, in response to our clients' needs," said Bob Bodian, Mintz's managing member. "Adding top talent like Andy to our corporate team expands our profile in California, and positions us to provide even greater value and insight to our emerging company and public company clients, as well as to the many underwriters with whom we work."
An Orrick spokesperson thanked Thorpe for his contribution to the firm and wished him the best.
