New hires and promotions from across the California legal market.

Matthew A. Richards, a San Francisco-based partner at Nixon Peabody, was appointed to serve as the firm's pro bono partner. In the new position, he will oversee the pro bono initiatives in all of the firm's offices. Richards works in Nixon Peabody's complex commercial disputes practice, and his pro bono practice is primarily focused on immigration law and LGBT civil rights.
San Francisco-based Lewis & Llewellyn brought on Brad Estes. Estes litigates business tort, breach of contract, fraud, trade secret and employment mobility disputes and represents victims of sexual abuse. He joins the firm after clerking for U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. O'Neill of the Eastern District of California.
Sheppard Mullin promoted a class of 21 attorneys to partner, effective March 1. The firm's California promotions include Farha Chowdry in Palo Alto; Frances M.K. Hernandez and Jacqueline Gottlieb Luther in Orange County; Alexander L. Merritt, Keahn N. Morris, Brooke S. Purcell and Robert K. Sahyan in San Francisco; Alejandro Moreno and Mark G. Rackers in San Diego; Heather L. Plocky and Matthew A. Tobias in Los Angeles; and Dylan Price, Jay Ramsey and Golnaz Yazdchi in Century City.
Former Fidelity National Financial in-house counsel Jill Battilega Rowe is now a commercial litigation partner at Venable. She is based in the firm's San Francisco office, where she will assist clients with disputes related to commercial real estate and contract and fraud. While at Fidelity National Financial, she handled mergers and acquisitions, employment and general corporate matters.
Stacie Neroni and Hope Levy-Biehl left their positions as co-managing partner and partner, respectively, at Nelson Hardiman to join Davis Wright Tremaine. Neroni and Levy-Biehl join the firm as partners in the firm's health care industry team in Los Angeles. They have experience advising health care providers on regulatory issues related to mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations and bankruptcies.
Litigation boutique Greenberg Gross promoted Matthew S. Ingles to partner. Ingles handles complex business litigation, arbitration and appeals and has worked on cases involving breach of contract, fraud, unfair competition, defamation, real estate, class action defense and intellectual property. He is based in Los Angeles.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
