On the Move: Tracking the Ins and Outs of California Lawyers
New hires and promotions from across the California legal market.

Fisher & Phillips brought on associates Megan Nevin and April Perkins in Sacramento. Both attorneys previously worked at Porter Scott and focus on labor and employment law. Nevin litigates cases on behalf of employers on issues including wage and hour violations, retaliation, wrongful termination and discrimination claims. Perkins also represents employers and advises them during all stages of litigation.
Sebastian Kaplan left his position as partner at Gerard Fox Law to join Meyers Nave Riback Silver & Wilson's construction and facilities and trial and litigation practice groups. He will serve as of counsel in the firm's Oakland office. Kaplan focuses his practice on matters involving construction, commercial transactions and contracts, intellectual property and policyholder-side insurance.
The former co-chair of Holland & Knight's legal professional team, Allison Martin Rhodes, moved to Sheppard Mullin. Rhodes will serve the firm as deputy general counsel and a partner of the business trial practice group. She has experience with transactional, intellectual property and litigation matters and represent clients in the legal industry in legal ethics and risk management, regulation, litigation, law firm organization and attorney disciplinary defense. She is based in San Francisco.
Mass torts and products liability litigator Kevin C. Mayer joined Norton Rose Fulbright as a partner. He will divide his time between the firm's Los Angeles and San Francisco offices and work on issues related to OSHA investigations and workplace environmental health and safety. Prior to the move, Mayer was with Crowell & Moring.
Two Nossaman attorneys were promoted to partnership within the firm: David Miller in Orange County and Youju Min in Los Angeles. Miller focuses his practice on complex land use and environment issues. Min handles infrastructure finance and development and particularly focuses on public-private partnerships.
The patent practice and life sciences group at Arent Fox grew with the addition of Daniel C. Stelter as counsel in the firm's San Francisco office. Before joining the firm, Stelter was vice president and chief counsel of intellectual property at Cardinal Health Inc. He focuses his practice on pharmaceutical and medical device regulatory law and intellectual property law.
Patrick Hammon left Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom to join San Jose-based McManis Faulkner. Hammon litigates intellectual property, white-collar crime and antitrust disputes. His clients include large, multinational corporations.
Buchalter announced that it promoted three attorneys to shareholder positions, including California-based Sean Casey and Harumi Hata. Casey works in the firm's Orange County office in the intellectual property, corporate and litigation practice groups, where he focuses on complex domestic and cross-border litigation and transactional issues. Hata, based in Los Angeles, is a member of Buchalter's corporate practice and represents multinational companies in business structuring, corporate and commercial transactions.
William Gorrod joined Baker Botts' state and local tax practice in San Francisco, where he will serve as partner. His practice includes matters related to state and local income and franchise taxes, gross receipt taxes, sales and use taxes, payroll taxes and real estate transfer taxes. Gorrod joins the firm from Morrison & Foerster.
San Francisco-based Stephen O'Neal joined King & Spalding from Jones Day. He joins the firm as partner. O'Neal will work in the firm's construction disputes and international arbitration practice, handling cases in industry sectors such as energy and infrastructure.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
