California’s Commission on Judicial Performance has admonished a Sacramento Superior Court judge for misconduct after becoming embroiled in a family law dispute, making inappropriate comments about the parents damaging their child and injecting religion into the proceeding by making references to the Bible and everlasting life.

Judge Matthew Gary stipulated to the CJP’s admonishment after telling parties in the underlying proceedings that he was “picking sides” and that “the parties are going to find themselves with nothing in the end.” Gary repeatedly told the parties their matter was “contrived” and a “nothing case.”
