New hires and promotions from across the California legal market.

A three-lawyer team of commercial litigators left Schiff Hardin for Venable's San Francisco office. John S. Worden joins as partner and tries cases, primarily on the defense side, in state and federal courts. Jean-Paul Cart, also a partner, handles business torts and commercial disputes. Steven E. Swaney will take on the role of counsel and defends against consumer class actions.
Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis announced that it promoted five attorneys to partnership. Real estate attorney Britney Willhite is based in Orange county. Lindsay Tabaian, who focuses on land use, environmental law and general litigation, and Tim Hsu, who handles matters related to financial services, are based in Los Angeles. Real estate lawyer Brian Michel is based in Century City, and Jonathan Lorenzen, also a real estate lawyer, is based in San Diego.
Helen Christakos, an attorney focused on privacy and data security, joined Fenwick & West as counsel. She will work in the firm's privacy and cybersecurity group in Silicon Valley. Prior to the move, Christakos was counsel at Alston & Bird.
Farella Braun + Martel senior associates Aviva J. Gilbert and Janice W. Reicher were appointed co-chairs of the firm's white-collar defense and internal corporate investigations group. Gilbert handles matters related to civil enforcement, investigation and criminal justice. Reicher focuses her practice on complex business litigation in addition to white-collar defense.
A group of seven attorneys, including partners Jonas J. Hodges and Sheree Rowe, joined Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch's intellectual property law practice. Both Hodges and Rowe were formerly partners at Arent Fox and have experience with matters involving medical devices and 5G cellular network wireless technologies. Hodges will work in Procopio's Orange County office, and Rowe will work in the firm's Silicon Valley office.
Redwood City-based IP litigation boutique Turner Boyd brought on Marc Peters as a partner. A former Morrison & Foerster partner, Peters advises on and litigates cases involving technology and intellectual property. He focuses his practice on technologies related to semiconductors, electronics and computers.
Michael A. Seiden, formerly with Pircher, Nichols & Meeks, is now a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig. He will work in the firm's real estate practice, where he will handle transactions such as acquisitions, dispositions, financings and joint ventures. Seiden is based in Los Angeles.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
