California’s legislative leaders have asked the Judicial Council to again extend its emergency order freezing eviction proceedings, pressuring judiciary leaders to buy them time to find a statutory solution.

In a letter sent to Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye Wednesday evening, Senate leader Toni Atkins and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon said that the Judicial Council’s plan to rescind the emergency order as planned on Aug. 14 threatens “the integrity of the legislative process for pending bills.”
