Amid pressure from the governor and state lawmakers, judiciary leaders will once again maintain emergency orders freezing eviction proceedings in California courts, but only briefly.

Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye announced Tuesday the Judicial Council will vote to rescind the eviction-related orders by Thursday with an effective date of Sept. 1. That’s one day after the legislative session ends and enough time, the chief justice suggested, for lawmakers to enact eviction protections.
