Attorneys representing civil rights groups and half a dozen jurisdictions are seeking sanctions against the U.S. Census Bureau, Department of Commerce and Trump administration officials after a federal judge found they violated her order prohibiting them from wrapping up census gathering operations ahead of schedule.

Plaintiffs counsel from Latham & Watkins and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law filed a motion to compel and for sanctions Wednesday after U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh of the Northern District of California suggested that she thought contempt proceedings might be in order.
