Jim Perzik, former general counsel for the Los Angeles Lakers and a giant in the world of sports law, has died from COVID-19 complications.

Perzik served as a lawyer for Lakers’ owner Jerry Buss for nearly a half-century and helped the businessman acquire a majority stake in the team in 1979. The major deal marked Perzik’s entrance into sports law.
