Davis Polk & Wardwell promoted 16 attorneys to counsel positions, including Northern California-based Philip T. Sheng. Sheng works in the firm's litigation department, where he focuses on intellectual property. He handles IP cases related to life sciences and pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, semiconductor integrated circuits, smartphone and tablet displays.
San Diego-based Wilson Turner Kosmo brought on five new attorneys. Senior associate Elvira Cortez will work in the firm's litigation and employment law groups; associate Michaela Delacruz will work in the employment law group; associate Kristina Fretwell will work in the products liability group; associate Ashley Quinn will work in the products liability and warranty groups; and associate Jordan Turner will work in the business litigation and employment law groups. Prior to the move, Cortez was with Dinsmore & Shohl; Delacruz was with Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith; Fretwell was with Selman Breitman; Quinn was with GableGotwals; and Turner was with the Brown Law Group.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
