Roy Austin, a former top Obama administration official who more recently served on the transition team advising President-elect Joe Biden about the U.S. Justice Department, has joined Facebook to help the tech giant form what it called a new civil rights organization.

A Washington-based former partner at the law firm Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis, Austin will assume the role of vice president of civil rights and deputy general counsel Jan. 19, the company said Monday.
