The fight over thousands of lawsuits that once belonged to bankrupt Girardi Keese escalated over the weekend, culminating in a lawsuit the estate’s Chapter 7 trustee filed against a law firm for sending unauthorized emails to solicit former clients.

Monday’s lawsuit accuses Abir Cohen Treyzon Salo, or the ACTS firm, of Encino, California, of sending mass emails Jan. 22 and Jan. 24 to clients with pending lawsuits over a 2015 gas leak in the Porter Ranch neighborhood of Los Angeles. Girardi Keese represented 8,200 of the 35,000 plaintiffs in those cases, which could generate the largest legal fees of any of the cases the firm was handling.
