In Los Angeles, one of the cities hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, a civil trial opened on Thursday—in person.
The trial, expected to last two weeks, is taking place in a downtown Los Angeles Superior Court building. Lawyers wore masks, socially distance and rely on barriers and videotaped testimony to conduct the trial, according to a live broadcast of the proceedings via Courtroom View Network. And, in one of the key decisions to get the case resolved, they agreed to hold a bench trial, eliminating the need for jurors.
