Hours after he was confirmed as secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Xavier Becerra on Thursday resigned as California's 33rd attorney general.
In announcing his resignation, Becerra said that he had named Matthew "Matt" Rodriquez chief deputy attorney general, effectively making the veteran state lawyer the acting leader of the state Department of Justice.
