France’s competition watchdog fined Google €220 million Monday for abusing its dominance in online advertising, a landmark decision in the history of antitrust scrutiny of one of Google’s most important sources of revenue.

Google said Monday it had agreed to pay the fine and to make changes in the way it manages its online advertising business so as not to favor its own businesses at the expense of competitors.
