Allowing state court users to appear remotely during the pandemic has increased access to justice, and the use of such technology should continue even after COVID-19 wanes, an interim report commissioned by the Judicial Council has concluded.

The report, released Monday, was completed by a group of judges, attorneys and court executives that was convened by Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye. The group heard from 76 people representing 46 entities, according to the group. Most of those testifying liked courts’ increased use of video technology in proceedings.
