A federal judge said he would appoint 14 plaintiff attorneys to spearhead dozens of class actions filed over casino-style apps after the leadership team scaled back its size and better diversified its membership.

Edelson partner Rafey Balabanian in San Francisco initially proposed a slate of 18 lawyers in the lawsuits, which allege Google, Apple and Facebook violated state anti-gambling laws with the apps. But after U.S. District Judge Edward Davila insisted the leadership team be diverse, Balabanian scaled down its membership, which he said on Thursday now includes seven women, four attorneys of color, two who identify as LGBTQ, and four with six or fewer years of experience.
