A corporate-backed association promoting business-friendly changes to California’s civil justice system introduced three potential ballot initiatives this week that would slash contingency fees and impose a 60-day wait on plaintiffs seeking to sue.

The Sacramento-based Civil Justice Association of California issued a statement saying the measures are aimed at “unethical lawyers” who charge clients 40% to 50% of any awarded damages.
