A San Francisco Bay Area grade-school boy claims Google and his school district failed to protect him from a hacker who breached his virtual classroom and sent sexually explicit content to his teacher, according to a federal privacy lawsuit Oct. 29.

In the complaint, filed in the Northern District of California and surfaced by Law.com Radar, the 13-year-old Fremont Unified School District student claims he was punished for the inappropriate messages sent by a bad actor who hacked his device in January. The boy alleges Google and the school district failed to inform teachers, staff and parents about the security risks in the classroom before transitioning to Google’s online education platform during the COVID-19 pandemic.
