San Francisco-based Brooks joins the crypto tech company following a brief stint as CEO of crypto exchange Binance.US. He resigned after about three months on the job, writing on Twitter that he quit because of "differences over strategic direction."

At Amsterdam-based Bitfury, Brooks succeeds founder and CEO Valery Vavilov, who now serves as board chief and "chief vision officer."
