A new judge joined the Central District of California on Thursday while another nominee was advanced by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.

The 15-7 vote on nominee Fred Slaughter, an Orange County Superior Court judge since 2014, occurred about three hours before the Senate’s latest Central District confirmation, Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong, was sworn in by U.S. District Chief Judge Philip Gutierrez in Los Angeles.
