Former U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy testified as a defense witness in the federal criminal trial of Nebraska U.S. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry on Wednesday, telling jurors he had no concerns about the congressman talking to the FBI and thought prosecutors were merely trying to determine if Fortenberry could be a witness.

“The congressman wanted to help the FBI,” Gowdy said.
