The law firm that blew the whistle on Girardi Keese has agreed to pay $2 million in missing settlement funds to the clients of the Lion Air crash but, to recoup that money, plans to file a new racketeering lawsuit against individuals who perpetuated a “criminal enterprise, disguised as a law firm.”

Edelson PC, which worked with Girardi Keese on the lawsuits against Boeing over the 2018 crash in Indonesia, filed an agreement on Tuesday in which the Chicago firm and its insurer would “reimburse the plaintiffs for the total amount lost.” Attached to Edelson’s motion to approve the deal is a draft complaint that seeks $50 million in punitive damages against members of the “Girardi Family Enterprise,” which included former Girardi Keese employees and Erika Girardi, who filed for divorce from Tom Girardi in 2020.
