The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission sued David J. Bunevacz, his stepdaughter Mary Hayca Bunevacz and other defendants Tuesday in California Central District Court for allegedly engaging in a Ponzi scheme and the unregistered sale of securities. The lawsuit contends that the defendants raised more than $32 million from investors toward a nonexistent cannabidiol vape pens venture. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendants. The case is 2:22-cv-02284, Securities and Exchange Commission v. Bunevacz et al.
