Google is aiming to shut down a scam from an alleged fraudster accused of taking advantage of the heightened demand for puppies during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a lawsuit filed Monday.

Cooley is representing the tech giant in the breach-of-contract suit against the operator of multiple websites purporting to sell puppies through a network of Gmail and Google Voice accounts. The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, asserts that Cameroon-based operator Nche Noel Ntse is perpetrating sham pet adoption schemes and that Google has spent $75,000 to investigate and respond to the alleged fraud.
