Lawyers, organized labor groups and key lawmakers have reached a deal that will allow courts to continue using video proceedings in civil matters through 2025.

The agreement extends state courts’ remote-appearances authority past its current July 1, 2023, expiration date. In exchange, the Judicial Council will submit annual reports to the Legislature detailing how often courts use remote technology and what problems they’ve encountered.
