Shartsis Friese announced that Rafi Mottahedeh has joined the firm as a partner in the San Francisco taxation practice. Mottahedeh was most recently tax counsel with agribusiness company Cargill Inc., where he served as tax lead for Cargill's financial business units and numerous corporate functions. Previously, he was at Jenner & Block in Chicago, and before that he was at Wood LLP in San Francisco. Mottahedeh has experience in an array of tax matters with special expertise in investment fund formations and offerings, mergers, acquisitions, and financial instruments. Additionally, Mottahedeh has experience from both Cargill and his work at law firms with the tax aspects of algorithmic trading, commodities, derivatives, and cross border transactions.
Global law firm Hogan Lovells has announced that corporate and finance partner Jane Ross has been named office managing partner of the firm's Silicon Valley office, effective June 1. Ross has almost 25 years of experience representing buyers and sellers of public and private companies across many industries, with a focus on the technology and life sciences sectors. She has handled multibillion-dollar transactions for many of Silicon Valley's industry-leading technology companies, as well as major global companies in the areas of life sciences and digital health.

J. Brugh Lower of Gibbons has entered an appearance for industrial equipment supplier Devco Corporation in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota.
