President Joe Biden announced several judicial nominations Friday, including an abortion rights attorney for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and a Connecticut state judge for a seat on the Second Circuit.

The president picked Julie Rikelman, the U.S. litigation director for the Center for Reproductive Rights, to fill a vacancy on the Boston-based First Circuit. Rikelman argued before the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of a Mississippi clinic against the state’s 15-week abortion ban in the case that led to the justices overturning Roe v. Wade.
