Gov. Gavin Newsom has chosen a veteran of Big Law, and his own legal affairs department, to fill a vacancy at the Sixth District Court of Appeal in San Jose.

Daniel Bromberg joined Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman last year to lead the firm’s appellate practice. He previously served for two years as Newsom’s deputy legal affairs secretary, a role that included work with the state’s environmental agencies as well as litigation involving the Trump administration’s border wall, high-speed rail funding and California’s COVID-19 restrictions.
