Freeman, Mathis & Gary filed a lawsuit June 1 in California Superior Court for Los Angeles County accusing a former clerk for an Arcadia-based attorney of embezzling over $100,000. The complaint was filed on behalf of attorney April A. Verlato, who claims that over a period of several years her former employee raised her wages in the firm's payroll system, and also raised bonus payment amounts on behalf of coworkers. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendants. The case is 23AHCV01240, Verlato v. Arreola.
