Former Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer testified Friday that he didn’t know lawyers retained by his office colluded to craft a sham lawsuit against the city, telling a State Bar Court judge he only learned of the wrongdoing years later.

Feuer, appearing at the professional misconduct trial of Tarzana attorney Michael Libman, said one of his deputies handled day-to-day issues surrounding litigation targeting the city for rolling out a botched municipal utility billing system in 2013. That deputy, James Clark, only apprised him of “significant milestones” in efforts to defend multiple lawsuits, Feuer said.
