Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch managing partner John D. Alessio, 55, died on Tuesday following a five-year battle against cancer, the firm announced Friday.

Alessio was a native San Diegan and practiced from the firm’s downtown San Diego office for 16 years. He had previously run his own firm, Thompson & Alessio, for more than six years before joining Procopio Cory as a partner in 2008. Alessio was elected firmwide managing partner first in 2017 and was twice reelected. He served two consecutive three-year terms in the role and was just beginning his third, a firm spokesperson told ALM.
