Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday moved to fill vacancies on the Second District Court of Appeal, nominating three current judges to join the Los Angeles appellate court.

Justice Brian Hoffstadt, an associate justice of the Second District's Division Two for the last 10 years, was picked to lead the court's Division Five as presiding justice. A former clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, Hoffstadt was a partner at Jones Day from 2007 until Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed him to the Los Angeles County Superior Court in 2010.
