Los Angeles has reached a $35 million settlement with Monsanto and two affiliated companies in a lawsuit that accused the agricultural biotech conglomerate of producing synthetic chemicals that contaminated local waterways, despite being aware of their toxicity for decades.

Los Angeles City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto announced the settlement with Monsanto Co., Pfizer subsidiary Pharmacia LLC and Eastman Chemical Co. subsidiary Solutia on Oct. 11. Both Pharmacia and Solutia were formerly a part of Monsanto Co.
