A federal judge allowed school districts to sue social media sites, including Instagram and TikTok, for expenses they incurred dealing with students who are addicted to their platforms.

U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, who is overseeing the social media addiction multidistrict litigation in the Northern District of California, allowed negligence claims brought by school districts and local governments to move ahead against Meta Platforms, which owns Facebook and Instagram, and the parent companies of TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube.
