With Kamala Harris' defeat in Tuesday's presidential election, California's Democratic leaders quickly pivoted to defense Wednesday, promising residents of the politically blue state that they will defend an array of progressive policies and regulations from the reach of a second Donald Trump administration.
"California will seek to work with the incoming president—but let there be no mistake, we intend to stand with states across our nation to defend our Constitution and uphold the rule of law," Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement issued as Harris delivered her concession speech in Washington, D.C.
