Thes young Black man was sent to prison for just over 15 years for an uncomplicated robbery committed when he was 22 years old. My efforts to get him released from prison went on for four years. Each time the law changed to open a window for relief, I tried again. I was finally successful after the passage of California’s Assembly Bill 600, which allows a defendant to request review of their previously imposed sentence.
