California Attorney General Rob Bonta on Friday issued guidance for prosecutors and defense counsel in preparation for what he called threats to immigrant communities posed by the incoming Trump administration.

The three-page document, released during a press conference in San Francisco, generally reiterates existing legal obligations for lawyers to advise noncitizen defendants of potential deportation risks that may come with any plea agreement. Bonta said such warnings will become even more important as President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to undertake mass deportations of those in the country without authorization.
