California Attorney General Rob Bonta said Wednesday that his office is prepared to take legal action if the Trump administration attempts to prosecute state or local officials who don't actively cooperate with federal deportation efforts.

Bonta was responding to reports that acting U.S. Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove sent a memo throughout the U.S. Department of Justice calling on U.S. attorneys to investigate and possibly prosecute officials complying with so-called sanctuary laws and policies relating to unauthorized immigrants.
