In a survey of law firm diversity (using data compiled from Recorder afilliate The National Law Journal 's 2002 survey of the nation's 250 largest law firms), California firms took 8 of the top 20 and 19 of the top 100 places, down just slightly from 2001. Some of the movement downward had to with a change to the survey that excludes attorneys employed overseas. Morrison & Foerster's Cedric Chao said his firm's drop to fifth place nationally reflects the change in the survey, not in staffing.
