In 1938, Eric Knight authored a popular story, “Lassie Come Home,” later developed into a novel, in 1940. The work was later produced in movies, television, and other media. Knight granted television rights to a predecessor of Classic Media, Inc. (CM). Knight died, and his rights reverted to his wife and daughters. The heirs timely filed renewals of the copyright.
The predecessor’s rights applied only to a television series, and so further agreements were necessary regarding other ancillary rights.
