SAN FRANCISCO — The Episcopal Church won a major battle Monday when the California Supreme Court ruled that local parishes don’t retain ownership of their property and buildings if they choose to disaffiliate.
The greater organization retains control, the court held unanimously, as long as there are canons holding “all real and personal property” in trust for the national church.
