The Third Appellate District granted a petition for writ of mandate. The court held that a father’s former female companion lacked standing to join a dormant Uniform Parentage Act as a means to obtain custody and visitation of his children where those issues were long ago settled as between the father and the children’s natural biological mother.
Jan Forsberg (Jan) lived for many years in an intimate relationship with William Scott (Bill). Also part of the family home were Bill’s three children from his prior relationship with Rachael Childress (Rachael). Bill and his children moved out of Jan’s home after the couple’s relationship deteriorated. Bill refused to give Jan access to the children.
