Angered by a perceived lack of due process in the State Bar discipline system, a group of government attorneys in Santa Clara County has spent the last few months drafting legislation to rein in the powers of State Bar prosecutors.

But their efforts took a sharp blow earlier this week when the powerful California District Attorneys Association — which had agreed in principle to support the move in November — unexpectedly pulled out.
